WILLIE LEWIS

De son vrai nom  WILLIAM LEWIS KLUG est né le 27 Septembre 1946 à DENVER (COLORADO) . Apres 4 mois , son père  quitte le domicile conjugal . En 1942 un premier enfant est né , décédé du même mal (sanguin) que WILLIE , qui arrive à son sortir .En 1943 c'est sa sœur qui est née et qui va être choisi par ANN , la maman pour etre éleveé . En effet de 6 mois à 5 ans , il va etre placé dans un foyer . Puis entre 1951 et 1963 , à l'orphelinat GEORGE W CLAYTON . Willie  tente plusieurs fois , de prendre contact avec sa maman , mais sans succès .  Les conditions de vie à CLAYTON vont être très dures . A 16 ans il a un problème avec la loi , vol de voiture . Apres plusieurs méfaits  , le tribunal lui propose la prison ou la marine . Il rejoint cette dernière . A l'armée cela se passe mal  , il est repris et enrôlé à la prison de NEVADA CITY . Apres 4 mois , il part rejoindre son poste pour finir "son temps" . 9 mois après  , de vie militaire , discipline .... il peut quitter la marine le 5 juin 1964 . Le 8 , il se dirige vers DENVER , vole une voiture et retourne en prison pour 2 ans . Ses parents refusent encore de le recueillir  et retombe dans la délinquance ...!!! PUIS IL RENCONTRE MARY LOU , qui va changer sa VIE ; tant au niveau privée que professionnelle . Musicalement  , elle va être l'inspiration de  plusieurs chansons The Rockin' Blues, Mary Lou Rock, I'll Still Love You When They Lay Me In The Ground and My Special Girl. Mais le vrai changement se fait en 1969 , lors de la naissance de sa fille CAROLYN LYNN  . Il décide qu'elle ne doit pas grandir dans les mêmes conditions que lui . Pour ce faire , ils déménagent et coupe les ponts avec son passé . Il va avoir beaucoup de mal à trouver un emploi stable , donc il décide de devenir son propre patron . Il commence comme de disques et même par correspondance des opus rares et va bien gagner sa vie . À la fin des années 70  , LEWIS a presque 20 années comme collectionneur en s'étant bien fait connaitre dans le milieu et bien développé . Il se décide d'apprendre la guitare , pour écrire des chansons et meme créer un label ROCKABILLY , style année 50 . C était un expert en musique Rockabilly mais un  musicien débutant . Mais très.  vite , il veut composer  . Son premier groupe , issu essentiellement de la famille : MIKE MONTOYA (neveu) - DONNIE MONTOYA  (neveu) - EDDIE VALDEZ 5neveu) - JOE SAMMY SANCHEZ (frère de MARY LOU) et VIC SVENSON (cousin) va s'appeler WILLIE & THE STRING POPPERS . Ils vont travailler sur 2 titres pour un 45 Tours :

Willie s whatever happened to that rock n roll ET the rockin blues . Apres satisfaction  , il veut donner aux chansons une sonorité FIFTIES . Il va déplacer matériels , instruments , micros , musiciens et quans tout sera parfait pour lui en ce 6 FEVRIER 1979 , tout est prêt pour son premier opus . Ce sera la référence

ROCKABILLY R-101 , qui va être tiré a 500 exemplaires . C est DAVE STIDMAN  , également collectionneur et propriétaire du grand magasin (Denver)  WAX TRAX qui va aider LEWIS  . Il va faire la connexion entre le MASTER - le pressage  et va en faire la distribution . En MARS 1984 LEWIS publie son 2e ALBUM avec le soutient de DAVE et B&F RECORDING PRESSING . Le pressage ne satisfait pas WILLIE qui veut faire annuler les ventes . Sur les 500 pressés , 200 vont être tout de même vendus . Le résultat va atteindre notre héros qui va avoir une alerte cardiaque ( lui très perfectionniste) . Le 3 e opus qui sort ROCKABILLY R-103 est produit par WILLIE  et  DAVE uniquement . . Ce dernier est enfin enregistré en studio professionnel  . Le pressage va se faire par UNITED RECORD PRESSING ...A partir du moment ou WILLIE a voulu , presque tout contrôler , il a pris contact avec PAUL BERKUS . Ils sont devenus amis et vont bien  s'entendre dans le travail . Le 4e disque va se faire sur la compagnie Aardvark (DENVER) et les guitares vont se faire en overdubb (nouveau pour Lewis) :

rockabilly R-104 :  THE FENDER BENDER BOOGIE - THE CRAZY BOOGIE . A partir du EP R107  , WILLIE va produire d'autres artistes , pour commencer par HIGH NOON . Il va de plus en plus se consacrer aux autres groupes ou autres . Pour lui il va sortir que 2 opus (R1001)-  (CD  R 5 001) . D autres entreprises vont également s'intéresser à lui  , GOOFIN RECORDS (Finlande) en la personne de PETE HAKONEN entres autres . Cela va lui emmener une notoriété sans cesse grandissante . PLUSIEURS FIRMES VONT SUIVRE LEUR EXEMPLE / like bop band -water hole -  -crazy gator -crazy love - the hill ..........

Vont passer par et avec LEWIS de nombreux groupes ... : BILLY POORE - THE ORIGINAL STABLEMEN - ROADHOUSE ROCKERS - HALL PETERS TRIO -BILLY &THE TOP CATS - CARL SONNY LEYLAND - FRANTIC FLATTOPS -BACK TOP ROCKETS - ELMER SPUDD - JIMMY LEE ROLLIN - JENNY BARBER - Go Cat Go, Ronnie Dawson, Don Rader, Marti Brom - The Rhythm Razors, Little Roy Williamson & the Denver Ramblers, Kidd Pharaoh ETC.....Plusieurs compilations vont regrouper tous les  titres de ROCKABILLY RECORDS .

Il nous quitte le 17 OCTOBRE 2014 suite à ses problèmes cardiaques incessants .

JOE GUERCIO

 

Est né le 17 juillet 1928 à BUFFALO .

Un des ses premiers grands faits musicaux a été  en tant qu'accompagnateur pour Patti Paige. Il a été directeur musical de Julius LaRosa, Diana Ross, Jim Nabors, Florence Henderson, Diahann Carroll, Steve Lawrence et Eydie Gorme, entre autres. Il a été un bon arrangeur , en exemple en 1972 son arrangement du   medley des Sweet Inspiration/Where You Lead va etre un hit pour Barbra Streisand , de meme en 1975 son arrangement de  The Way We Were/Try to Remember va etre   hit  pour  Gladys Knight . C est aussi lui qui travaille sur le duo DE  Natalie Cole AVEC SON PAPA NAT KING COLE . Il a accompagné également BB KING pour son show à rome devant LE PAPE Jean-Paul II .......

Bien sur il est aussi et surtout reconnu , pour ses 8 années passé  sur scene en tant que "directeur musical" du KING et quelques peu arrangeurs . Son premier contact pour travailler avec ELVIS se fait par téléphone par le biais de TOM DISKIN (adjoint de PARKER) , qui lui dit qu ils ont pensé à lui pour accompagner PRESLEY , pour ses prochains spectacles . Il lui a posé des questions sur son travail passé , mais en fait il savait tout de GUERCIO et pour ELVIS s'en été de même , ils savaient qu il avait  été avec Eydie Gormet et Steve Lawrence   ...... surtout que JOE était à l'époque directeur musical de l hôtel HILTON . Il est  allé ensuite les rencontrer et l  ont rappelé pour lui  dire qu il  était engagé pour un film THAT S THE WAY IT IS . JE N AVAIS PAS ENCORE RENCONTRE ELVIS  (joe) .........Il n'était pas fan du KING et encore moins de rock n roll  . Il a du de suite durant 3 jours entrer dans les répétitions du groupe , avec des arrangements de GLEN D HARDIN , puis seulement ensuite il a pu converser avec ELVIS ...EN FAIT IL A VITE CHANGER D AVIS ET A SA GRANDE SURPRISE LE NATIF DE TUPELO ETAIT UN MERVEILLEUX CHANTEUR SPLENDIDE . Surtout JOE apprécie en PRESLEY cet homme entier VRAI , respectueux de la valeur des gens , des ses ainés . C est GUERCIO qui donne l'idée à PRESLEY , d'utiliser  le Theme de  2001 - A Space Odyssey (Also Sprach Zarathustra) en introduction de ses shows . Il eut l'idee en allant voir le film au cinéma et entendant sa femme lui dire , avec cette musique on s'attend à voir venir ELVIS PRESLEY .....

Il va faire bien sur partie de ELVIS -THE CONCERT en étant un des  directeur arrangeur du spectacle , puis du WORL TOUR qu'il va diriger ..

Donna Douglas

 Née  DORIS SMITH en septembre 1932 à PRIDE (bâton rouge) . 2e enfant de Ratcliff emmett Smith et Elma . Plus tard elle entre à l'école catholique St Gérard  , ou elle y joue du basket et softball . En 1949 , elle épouse Roland Bourgeois . Elle divorce en 1954 , après avoir reçu un fils : DAVID .

Douglas est nommée  Miss BATON ROUGE et même Miss NOUVELLE ORLEANS en 1957 . C est un peu avant cela qu'elle décide de mener une carrière dans le Show Business . Elle déménage même à NEW YORK et démarre comme modèle  , dans une publicité de dentifrice . Elle fait un passage au PERRY COMO SHOW comme " LETTER GIRL" en 1957  et "BILLBOARD GIRLS" sur NBC's  pour le STEVE ALLEN SHOW en 1959 . Les articles d'époque évoque également un passage au ED SULLIVAN SHOW "MISS BY-LINE" .. HALL B WALLIS qui voit l'épisode de SULLIVAN l'engage pour le film dramatique CAREER (1959) ;  elle va y jouer le rôle de Marjorie Burke au coté de DEAN MARTIN  -  Shirley Mac LAINE -Anthony Franciosa et NOTEZ bien une certaine CAROLYN JONES (KING CREOLE avec ELVIS)  et JOAN BLACKMAN (KID KALAHAD -BLUE HAWAII plus tard  avec ELVIS ) ! Va suivre un petit rôle dans la comédie LIL ABNER (1959) et le rôle de secrétaire dans  LOVER COME BACK avec ROCK HUDSON et DORIS DAY en 1961 . Elle fait plusieurs apparitions Télé à ces époques :  TWILIGHT ZONE- - THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER , elle est Barbara Simmons dans 4 épisodes de CHECKMATE (1961) . Elle passe également dans US MARSHAL - TIGHTROPE -The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, Bachelor Father, Adam-12,   Route 66 , et  The Hungry Glass . Elle est sélectionnée parmi 500 actrices ,   pour travailler aux cotés de BUDDY EBSON , dans la série très connue THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES , elle va rester ami avec EBSON . En 1973 elle est même propulsée au devant dans THE RETURN OF THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES ; elle va garder y  une notoriété , qui va la ravir .

Elle va être de la partie avec BAER pour les 84 ans de EBSEN en 1993 à la TELEVISION . Ils seront réunis une dernière fois sur un plateau , pour une émission spéciale de CBS-TV The Legend of The Beverly Hillbillies . Quoiqu on en dise ce qui va aussi booster sa carriere , c'est durant sa pause de THE BEVERLY ...., elle va être prise dans un rôle principal pour donner le change au KING dans :

Frankie and Johnny , film sans prétention certes (qui aurait pu et du être un tres bon cru , mais cela est une autre histoire....) mais qui a rapporte une somme d argent conséquente  à United Artists . Elle y joue le role de FRANKIE (qui aurait été proposé en premier lieu à ANN MARGRET) . Le film sort le 31MARS 1966 .

bob montgomery

Est né le 12 MAI 1937 à LAMPASAS (TEXAS) . Chanteur -compositeur- producteur-et meme éditeur , BOB est surtout connu dans le monde du rock n roll  , de par son association avec BUDDY HOLLY .

Montgomery déménage à LUBBOCK à l'âge de 12 ans et rencontre BUDDY à la JUNIOR HIGH . Ils se sont vite découvert le même intéressement pour la musique et vont participer à des fêtes scolaires . Finalement ils vont avoir un petit spectacle radio  sur KDAV . Des démos vont apparaitre plus tard de cette époque , sur l album HOLLY THE HILLS . BOB va également sortir quelques singles en solo ou avec sa première femme CAROL  : entres autres :

TASTE OF THE BLUES -BECAUSE I LOVE YOU (BRUNSWICK 1959) . Il a bien evidemment co écrit avec HOLLY plusieurs titres dont : DOWN THE LINE-WISHING-HEARTBEAT -LOVE S MADE A FOOL OF YOU etc .....(cf album) .

 Un de ses titres solo va être même repris par les Everly brothers                THATS WHAT YOU DO TO ME . Son premier grand succès en tant que compositeur est MISTY BLUE , destiné à BRENDA LEE qui l a refuse , chanson reprise maintes fois ; les versions les plus représentatives sont  de : WILLIAM BURGESS (n 4 au hit country) -Eddy Arnold n 3 au hit country et 57 au pop charts) et DOROTHY MOORE (n 3 au pop charts en 1976) . Il va devenir un excellent producteur et éditeur , collaborant notamment  avec CLIFF RICHARDS ( WIND ME UP) ... Son très grand succès BEHIND CLOSED DOORS (Charlie Rich) NE SERA pas le seul . Il va collaborer avec ou editer ( The Crickets, Waylon Jennings, Jimmy Gilmer & The Fireballs, Buddy Knox and Roy Orbison.) lors de sa carrière .  En 1967 il vend sa maison d édition TALMONT MUSIC et prend la tete de UNITED ARTISTS RECORDS  , il va y guider Del Reeves (1969  “Good Time Charlie’s”), Johnny Darrell (1968’ “With Pen in Hand”) et  Buddy Knox (1968’s “Gypsy Man”), pour ne citer qu eux .

En 1969 avec GOLDSBORO , il forme the publishing company house of gold , va en sortir de plus que BEHIND CLOSED DOORS , des titres tels : The Wind Beneath My Wings” (Gary Morris, Bette Midler -- John Conlee’s “Rose Colored Glasses,” Tammy Wynette’s “Til I Get it Right,” Alabama’s “Love in the First Degree,” The Oak Ridge Boys’ “Bobbie Sue”  et Tanya Tucker’s “Lizzie and the Rainman.”

En 1982 WARNER BROS rachète la société  . BOB devient directeur de la création à TREE . En 1988 il passe à CBS RECORDS comme vice président  . Il va également produire des disques pour :  B.J. Thomas, Waylon Jennings, Shelby Lynne et  Merle Haggard ........ “Rocky” de  Austin Roberts (1975), “It Ain’t Easy Bein’ Easy” b de Janie Fricke (1982), “Prop Me Up Beside the Jukebox” de  Joe Diffie (1993) and “Some Memories Just Won’t Die” de  Marty Robbins (1982) sont associé à BOB .

Apres etre revenu d AUSTRALIE il fini ses jours à NASHVILLE avec sa femme CAROLE . IL NOUS QUITTE LE 4 DECEMBRE 2014 .

mary ann mobley

 

Mary Ann Mobley est une actrice américaine, née le 17 février 1937 à Biloxi (Mississippi) et morte le 9 décembre 2014 à Beverly Hills (Californie).

Mobley est élue « Miss America 1959 ». Elle fait carrière au cinéma et à la télévision et remporte le Golden Globe de la révélation féminine de l'année en 1965.

Mary Ann Mobley grandit à Brandon. Durant son enfance, elle chante dans la chorale de son église. Elle intègre l'université du Mississippi grâce à une bourse d'étude et en sort diplômée en 1958. En septembre de la même année, lors de la 32e édition du concours de beauté Miss America, elle est élue « Miss America 1959 ». Mobley est la première Miss Mississippi à remporter le concours.

Elle se rend à New York afin d'étudier l'art dramatique avec Lee Strasberg et parvient à faire carrière dans le show business. Après avoir débuté à Broadway en 1962 dans la comédie musicale Nowhere to Go But Up, elle est recrutée par le studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer et s'établit à Hollywood.

En 1965, le Golden Globe de la révélation féminine de l'année lui est attribué pour son rôle dans le film Get Yourself a College Girl (en). Elle partage la récompense avec Mia Farrow et Celia Kaye (en). En 1965, elle tourne dans La Stripteaseuse effarouchée (Girl Happy) et Harum Scarum (en), deux films mettant en vedette Elvis Presley, bien sur .

À partir des années 1960, Mary Ann Mobley tourne dans de nombreuses séries télévisées, dont Perry Mason et Falcon Crest. Elle reprend le rôle de Maggie McKinney, auparavant interprété par Dixie Carter, durant la dernière saison de la série Arnold et Willy (Diff'rent Strokes). Mobley est régulièrement invitée dans le jeu télévisé Match Game (en). En 1989, elle coprésente la retransmission télévisée de la soirée Miss America avec son mari Gary Collins.

Mary Ann Mobley se rend au Cambodge et en Somalie, entre autres, où elle réalise des documentaires consacrés aux enfants de ces pays. Elle copréside le club des célébrités atteintes de la maladie de Crohn et est engagée auprès d'organismes de charité. Elle soutient notamment l'association March of Dimes et Childhelp, qui lutte contre la maltraitance sur mineur.

En 1967, elle épouse l'acteur Gary Collins, dont elle a fait la connaissance sur un tournage, d'où une fille : Clancy Collins White.

La firme d ELVIS , RCA VICTOR y croit et le fait meme avec la volonté d'y rajouter des chants religieux QUE PRESLEY AFFECTIONNE .

 

C E L.P VA SORTIR LE 15 OCTOBRE 1957 ET VA FAIRE date .  De multiples réeditions VONT SUIVRE , faisant certaine fois croire aux fans , qu'ils tiennent LA PIECE .
