NEW DELHI – Comic book legend Stan Lee has written a special comic book story about Elvis Presley to be given away free as part of Free Comic Book Day Saturday. The story, illustrated by publisher Liquid Comics' Indian artist Jeevan J. Kang, is also included in an exclusive hardcover anthology, Graphic Elvis, limited to only 2,500 copies and available via select retailers and at www.graphicelvis.com.

New York-headquartered Liquid Comics has an artist studio in Bangalore, India. As reported earlier exclusively by THR, Liquid Comics recently announced that Stan Lee would be creating a special Indian superhero, Chakra – The Invincible, working with a team of Indian artists and writers.

“What a thrill it is for me to be included in a book celebrating the life of Elvis Presley," Lee said in a statement. "I remember the time I first saw him on TV, when he burst upon the music scene like a blazing comet. I remember his indescribably rich voice, his incredible sense of rhythm, his magnificent range--from rock, to pop, to ballads and hymns. I remember the indescribably powerful impact he had on the youth of the nation--and the world. How lucky we were to have seen and heard him, because there was only one Elvis Presley, whose songs and whose memory will live forever."

Presley was a big comic book fan and shared their impact on his life in his famous acceptance speech for the 1971 Top Ten Outstanding Men of America award. “When I was a child ladies and gentlemen, I was a dreamer. I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book…so every dream that I’ve dreamed has come true a hundred times,” he said.

Graphic Elvis also reprints a number of hand-written notes and musings, never before seen by the public, that the rock 'n' roll legend originally wrote in the margins of books he owned.

“Elvis Presley transcended every entertainment medium he touched, from music to movies to concerts, and now to graphic novels,” said Liquid Comics Co-Founder & CEO, Sharad Devarajan. “We are honored to work with some of the most acclaimed creators in graphic fiction to commemorate the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll on the 35th year anniversary of his death.”

Along with noted Indian artist Kang, Graphic Elvis creators include a mix of talent from both the U.S. and India, such as Samit Basu, Mukesh Singh, Saumin Patel, Jimmy Palmiotti, John Cassaday, Paul Gulacy, Ryan Kelly, Paul Pope, Greg Horn, Steve Rude, Tony Millionaire, Gilbert Hernandez, among others.

In addition to the physical book, an interactive digital and mobile app, Graphic Elvis: The Interactive Experience, is also available for $9.99, which includes bonus videos, animation and interactive features.
