BOB LUMAN /

De son vrai nom ROBERT GLYNN LUMAN , est né le 15 AVRIL 1937 à BLACKJACK .Fils d'un violoniste et joueur d'harmonica, Bob Luman grandit dans un village proche de Nacogdoches, une ville moyenne de l'est du Texas, proche de la frontière louisianaise. Élevé dans le culte de Webb Pierce, un habitant de la ville voisine de Shreveport (Louisiane), et Lefty Frizzell, il chante dans une petite formation de collégiens. Il se prépare aussi a etre un joueur de baseball professionnel . Mais en MAI 1955 , il assiste comme spectateur , à un concert d ELVIS , révélation (encore UN !!!!) , il va le suivre sur plusieurs dates , apres cela il ne chantera plus comme PIERCE ou FIZZELL . Il va prendre l'initiative de ce rendre à DALLAS , pour une session . Il va enregistrer avec la band de Mc curtis (voir bio blog) , 6 rockabilly "sauvages" : STRANGER THAN FICTION - YOU RE THE CAUSE OF IT ALL - THAT S ALL RIGHT - HELLO BABY - IN THE DEEP DARK JUNGLE AND LET HER GO - THE MAJORITY BEING RAW , qui ne sortiront helas qu en 1970 , grace à RONNIE WEISER sur le LABEL ROLLIN ROCK . La 2 e étape est de rejoindre un grand show , par nécessité ce va etre le LOUISIANNA HAYRIDE de SHREVEPORT , en remplacement de JOHNNY CAS accidenté . Il dit adieu alors à sa carriere dans le baseball . Il fait la connaissance du futur band (presque) de RICKY NELSON , le virtuose JAMES BURTON et le bassiste JAMES KIRKLAND , il y rajoute un batteur BUTCH WHITE et un pianiste GENE CARR . Grace à certains de ce groupe , BOB va etre signé par le LABEL IMPERIAL et le 27 fevrier , il entre au studio SELLARS à DALLAS , pret à tout casser . Le premier single  :

RED CADILLAC AND BLACK MUSTACHE / ALL NIGHT LONG (IMPERIAL X 8311) sort le 22 juillet 1957 et est excellent . Une 2e session est programmé , plus en vain de sortir un grand hit , du grand rock . Va sortir 2 single de toute beauté , d'anthology ,reconnue que trop tard du publique , avec le vocal si efficace de LUMAN et un BURTON qui démarre vraiment sa légende .

Le 28 OCTOBRE 1957  : RED HOT / WHENEVER YOU RE READY ( IMPERIAL X8323)  EST également de toute beauté . Puis en DECEMBRE (IMPERIAL X 8314) MAKE YOU MIND BABY / YOUR LOVE est sur le marché , encore du lourd . Milieu 57 , BOB LUMAN et son groupe sont pris pour un film sur le rock de ROGER CORMAN . Son dernier single va bien se comporter  dans les charts . Burton et Kirkland le quitte pour RICKY NELSON en avril 1958 . Il signe peu apres à CAPITOL et sort en AVRIL 1958  son 1er single sous ce label : TRY ME / I KNOW MY BABY CARES (CAPITOL F3972) , disque plus commercial avec CHOEURS et SAXOPHONE , qui donnent une nouvelle couleure , bien agréable certe . Le 2e 45 t tres bon aussi :

SVENGALI / PRECIOUS (CAPITOL F4059) du 29 SEPTEMBRE 1958 a lui aussi une "vie de courte durée" , incompréhensible !! le succes n'étant pas en osmose avec la qualité des disques de BOB !!!! En juin 1959 , il signe pour WARNER BROS . Ses opus vont etre plus pop moins rockabilly , un son plus clair et sa voix mixée bien en avant . Il entre en plein dans le style SIXTIES . Certains titres vont tout de meme  rester de tres haut niveau : 20 juillet 1959 (WARNER BROS 5081) MY BABY WALKS ALL OVER ME / CLASS OF 59      puis le  26 OCTOBRE 1959 BUTTERCUP / DREAMY DOLL (WARNER BROS 5105) .

C est la sortie du single (WARNER BROS 5172) du 15 aout 1960 QUI VA LUI PERMETTRE d'avoir UN ENORME SUCCES enfin mérité : YOU VE GOT EVERYTHING / LET S THINK ABOUT LIVING , IL ATTEINT LA 7 E PLACE DES CHARTS POP et la 9e du COUNTRY CHARTS . En angleterre il est numero 6. Peu apres BOUM le cauchemar , il est appelé par l'oncle sam . BOB est campé au TENNESSEE et MISSOURI , ce qui lui permet de faire quelques sessions , pour du materiel en vue d'un ALBUM .  Le 33t  est libre sous le nom LET S THINK ABOUT LIVIN (WARNER BROS WS1396) . Le disque suivant , tres bon , WHY WHY BYE BYE / OH LONSOME ME , va bien "marcher" en EUROPE , mais pas aux STATES . Lorsqu'il revient à la vie civile , lors d'un concert à VANCOUVER , il rencontre sa future femme BARBABRA . Le futur chez WARNER , va etre  des singles rock , mais aussi COUNTRY , encore de qualité acceptable bien que non regulier en ce domaine . Ses FANS se sont eparpillés et ne suivent pas vraiment ; WARNER sort son dernier 45t le 3 novembre 1962  : YOU RE EVERYTHING / ENVY (WARNER BROS 5321) . Le filon s'essouffle , il est temps d'aller scruter d'autres horizons . En janvier 1963 , il obtient un contrat avec HICKORY . Il va enregistrer à NASHVILLE au fameux  STUDIO B RCA (voir special blog) ou les musiciens de studio preferés d ELVIS y travaillent . Vont l'accompagner FLOYD  CRAMER - BOB MOORE - GRADY MARTIN et un nouveau venu JIMMY ISBELL . Le 1er 45t sort le 16 FEVRIER 1963 (HICKORY 1201) : INTERSTATE FORTY / YOU RE WELCOME . La suite va se composer de standart de COUNTRY , alterné d anciens ROCKS . C est le 12 AOUT 1964 à YUMA , qu'il épouse BARBARA , le 17 juin 1966 , naissance de MELISSA CLAIRE . Il devient membre du GRAND OLE OPRY en aout 1965 . La famille déménage à HENDERSONVILLE (tennessee) en 1968 .  1969 , il vire chez EPIC et sort une multitudes de singles jusqu'en 1974 , avec plus ou moins de succes , mais entrant quelques tubes dans les charts . En 1976 , il est opéré de rupture des vaisseaux sanguins dans l'oesophage . Apres sa convalescence il signe à POLYDOR , pour 4 disques , il travaille avec JIM VIENNEAU qui a bossé avec CONWAY TWITTY . L e premier simple va se classer dans les charts (SP POLYDOR PD14408) I M A HONKY TONKWOMAN S MAN /LONELY WOMEN MAKE GOOD LOVERS . Apres un show au OLE OPRY , le 15 decembre 1978 , il revient à son domicile , pritvde malaise ; le 19 , il est admis à l'hopital et DECEDE LE 27 DECEMBRE 1978 à NASHVILLE , à l'age de 41 ans .
