Dori compte sur le bal du collège pour conquérir définitivement le coeur de Tommy. Ce dernier doit participer à un concours de rock and roll organisé par Alan Freed , concours dont le vainqueur sera filmé par la télévision. Dori Grey (Tuesday Weld) n'aura pas de robe pour aller au bal du College si elle ne travaille pas pour se la payer, Et Dori pleure car elle esperait ce soir la conquerir le coeur de Tommy. Après bien des difficultés, Dori arrivera à ses fins... Peu importe ! L'intérêt du film est ailleurs, il réunit quelques unes des "pointures" du R&B et du rock'n roll des 50s.
Alan Freed, le célèbre DJ dse années 50 tient le premier rôle dans ce film, un des premiers films rock . C'est le premier film de Chuck Berry et il nous gratifie de son fameux "Duck Walk". On y retrouve Connie Francis, Chuck Berry, Frankie Lymon and The Teenagers chantant "Juvenile Delinquent", The Moonlglows (avec Bo Diddley à la guitare!), c'est la seule apparirion dans un film de The Johnny Burnette Trio (il chante "Lonesome Train"). N'oublions pas Lavern Baker, The Flamingos, Teddy Randazzo, Jimmy Cavallo and the House Rockers.... "
